Wednesday 19th July 2023; 9.30 am: Deverill Valley, near Warminster. Leader: Alison Rymell

A mid-summer walk on the downlands above the Upper Deverill villages. This area is home to good numbers of breeding farmland birds like Corn Bunting, Skylark, Yellowhammer and Linnet. Raptors including Red kite, Buzzard and Kestrel also frequent the area. The joy of a walk on the chalk downlands in July is the butterflies and wild flowers, so let’s cross our fingers for a warm sunny day. This walk will be about 5 miles long and includes a steepish hill. Lunch should be brought.

Members will have received the mobile number of the leader and details of the meeting place in the Field Trips leaflet which went out with the Winter edition of WOS News. These details will also be given in the monthly email which is sent to those members who have signed up to receive emails at the beginning of the month in which the trip will be held.

The attention of members is drawn to the fact that WOS accepts no liability for damages or personal injury occurring during its activities. Please note that dogs should not be brought to meetings.

WOS seeks to encourage car sharing, so members may wish to liaise prior to meetings to try and reduce car usage.

Field trips and indoor meetings are rarely cancelled based on weather forecasts of inclement conditions as they can be wrong. However, in the event of cancellation, a notice will be posted on the website under Newsflash.  Members may also check by telephoning the leader, see above.
