A Bumper WOS Weekend in West Sussex!

Members wishing to come for the whole weekend will need to make their own arrangements re meals, accommodation, etc.

Please note the different start times.

Day 2 - Sunday 27th April 9.30 am Pagham Harbour RSPB Reserve, West Sussex

This sheltered inlet is an internationally important wetland site for wildlife, featuring saltmarsh and mudflats, lagoons, reedbeds, farmland and shingle beaches.  At this time of year, it is noted for migrants and is an important breeding site for Oystercatchers and Ringed Plovers, as well as Common, Sandwich and Little Terns.  Sedge and Reed Warblers occupy the reedbeds.  The visit consists of two short walks, the first of which is a level walk of approximately a mile.  Here we will view the tern colonies, enjoy the rising tide as it 'pushes' some of the birds towards us, explore the churchyard for passerines and view the sea.

The second is a level walk of approximately a mile.  Here we will view Ferry Pool, via the hide and then scour the bushes and trees for breeding passerines, as well as the marshes for waders.

There are toilets at the RSPB visitor centre.  All day meeting so please bring lunch.  Walking boots are advisable.  A telescope would be very beneficial.

Details of the meeting place and the mobile number of the leader will be in the monthly email which is posted either at the end of month preceding the walk or at the beginning of the month in which the walk is to take place and is also on the Programme which has been sent with WOS News.
