NNR Parsonage Down Farm near Shrewton
A new location for WOS, this working farm managed by Natural England is renowned for its spring and summer chalk grassland wildflowers with over 150 species including a number of different orchids. There are areas of scrub where we should see Yellowhammers and Linnets holding territory, with Skylarks over the downland. There will be an outside chance of Stone Curlew and/or Great Bustard. If it is a sunny day there are likely to be butterfly special of chalk grassland. Our walk will be around five miles with some moderate slopes, so suitable walking boots or shoes will be needed. There may be cattle on the downland. The walk will last into the afternoon so please bring lunch. There are toilets on site, and please car share where possible.
Details of the meeting place and the mobile number of the leader will be in the monthly email which is posted either at the end of month preceding the walk or at the beginning of the month in which the walk is to take place and is also on the Programme which has been sent with WOS News.
